"Don Pasquale" by Donizetti returns to La Scala after 6 years.
A translations of Donizetti's bitter comedy into the melancholic atmospheres of Cinecittà during the black and white years.
Teatro alla Scala - Milano - Italy 2018 & 2024
David Livermore’s show translates Donizetti’s bitter comedy into the melancholic atmospheres of Cinecittà during the black and white years.
The numerous references to Italian cinema history do not detract from the immediacy and liveliness of the narrative, which unfolds behind the scenes in a scale of grays, now dark, now pearly, designed by Livermore with Giò Forma and animated by the contrasting colors of Gianluca Falaschi’s costumes. Memorable is Norina’s fantastical flight over the Roman landscape aboard a Giulietta. The direction sees Evelino Pidò on the podium, while the protagonists are Ambrogio Maestri, Andrea Carroll, Lawrence Brownlee, and Mattia Olivieri.
First seen during The Premiere at Teatro alla Scala in 2018, it returns to the stage at La Scala for six performances from May 11th to June 4th, 202
