Cave Mont Blanc:

an immersive experience in mountain viticulture

Skyway, Courmayeur (2025)

A symbol of Alpine excellence, the new winery at 2,173 meters on Mont Blanc is an immersive experience in mountain viticulture and the secrets of high-altitude sparkling wine, brought to life through an innovative design by Giò Forma.

Mountain viticulture has a new architectural landmark. Cave Mont Blanc has inaugurated its new high-altitude winery, a cutting-edge space located at 2,173 meters within the Pavillon du Mont Fréty at Skyway Monte Bianco, Courmayeur. The project, conceived and designed in collaboration with the renowned architecture studio Giò Forma, redefines the experience of mountain winemaking, blending nature, innovation, and craftsmanship.

Ten years after launching its first winery and sparkling wine laboratory at the mid-station, Cave Mont Blanc has taken its vision further with this new space, officially unveiled on Saturday, February 22. The winery invites visitors to explore the unique challenges and wonders of mountain viticulture and discover the secrets of high-altitude sparkling winemaking in an environment that fuses design and storytelling.

At 2,173 meters, the winery produces the Pas Dosé “Cuvée des Guides”, a sparkling wine that pays homage to the mountains and the Alpine Guides of Courmayeur. This long-standing collaboration between Cave Mont Blanc and Skyway Monte Bianco celebrates the extreme conditions that shape a truly one-of-a-kind wine.

Design and Innovation at High Altitude

The entire sparkling wine production process unfolds at altitude, where unique atmospheric conditions enhance the finesse of the bubbles. Since 2022, Cave Mont Blanc, in partnership with the Department of Enology at the University of Turin, has been conducting research on the effects of high-altitude fermentation, with final results expected by the end of the year.

At the heart of this new architectural and enological venture is an immersive journey designed by Giò Forma, which transforms the winery into a temple of mountain viticulture.

The Winery as an Experience

The new winery space is not just a production site but a living narrative, tracing the journey of wine from the highest vineyards in Europe, in Morgex, to the mid-station of Skyway Monte Bianco. Here, visitors can engage with the stories of heroic mountain vignerons and the science behind high-altitude sparkling winemaking.

The winery’s design, curated by Giò Forma, embodies the spirit of innovation:

  • A spectacular recycled bottle wall made from 3,000 repurposed bottles from Skyway Monte Bianco, symbolizing sustainability and transformation.
  • “Lo Blanc di Blanc”, a striking iron artwork by Morgex artist Michel Olmi, where the peak of Mont Blanc frames the vineyards, celebrating the fusion of nature and craftsmanship.

For years, Skyway Monte Bianco and Cave Mont Blanc have been dedicated to elevating mountain viticulture—both literally and figuratively. With Giò Forma’s visionary design, the new winery is not just a space, but an experience—a place where altitude, innovation, and artistry converge to create wines unlike any other in the world.
