Accademia del caffè espresso
A cultural hub focused on understanding and promoting espresso coffee.
La Marzocco, Firenze - Italy (2018)
Housed in the old La Marzocco’s factory, Accademia del caffè espresso is a multi-purpose center containing: La Marzocco’s company museum and historical archive, an indoor coffee plantation, research and education laboratories, and the Officine Fratelli Bambi – a workshop dedicated to craftsmanship and artistry, producing bespoke espresso machines.
The Espresso Coffee Development and Cultural Understanding Center, aimed at facilitating meetings, sharing, and professional and personal growth in all its traditional and contemporary forms and derivations, has been established. Research, education, and technology are the three key areas that La Marzocco, a company founded in 1927 and now located in its current headquarters in Scarperia, will develop in the former workshop now repurposed as the Accademia space. This space is a product of the influences, research, and inspirations that, from the past, are changing the present and moving towards the future.
On-site, there is an original Bambi Bar offering tastings of special coffee blends, including vintage ones, an indoor greenhouse coffee plantation to understand the challenges and specifics, exhibitions and installations narrating the origin of coffee and its complexity, and a timeline reflecting the long journey of design and technology.
The center also includes a space to experiment with coffee machines, a menu of courses to become a barista and for young artisans, a schedule of educational exchanges with coffee-producing countries, as well as round tables and seminars.
