The Opera! Arie per un'eclissi:
A musical-theater production that tells the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice in our contemporary context.
Festa del Cinema di Roma - 2024
A sudden gunshot shatters the dream of two lovers on the day of their wedding. The fate of Orpheus and Eurydice is a cruel one. On the very day they were to crown their love, her soul is stolen and taken to the underworld.
Joy, emotion, applause, and smiles are extinguished by the shot of Pluto, the lord of the underworld, who arrives unexpectedly at the wedding.
Under a metaphysical sky, the taxi driver, Charon, waits for the crime to unfold.
An untamed chase across the waters of the Acheron to the Underworld (or rather, to the Hades Hotel) marks the beginning of Orpheus’s relentless journey, the groom, to reclaim his love. Alongside him, Orpheus will have only Hope, a young girl who will accompany him through the realm of the dead. Among encounters with the souls of his dearly departed, an attempt at seduction by Persephone, the cynicism of Atropos, and the indifference of the concierge, Orpheus will understand the depth of his love and confront the doubt of the living when faced with the disarming truth of death.
In his desperate search for his beloved, Orpheus will discover surreal places: a semi-submerged Paris, a cliff overlooking the river Styx, the vast lobby of the hotel, and stages of semi-abandoned theaters. The two protagonists will perform some of the most beautiful operatic arias in a game of musical references: from Puccini to Handel, Verdi, Gluck, Bellini, Ravel, Vivaldi, all the way to Frankie Goes to Hollywood, in an extraordinary sound world that blends acoustic orchestras and electronic sound design.
The final and insidious obstacle to bringing Eurydice back to the world of the living lies in the execution of the aria that encapsulates the essence of the trial of love. Orpheus must sing Nessun Dorma, without forgetting for whom he is singing it.
Drunk with success, the young lover will waver. Will he manage to bring his beloved back with him?
