The Chedi's Art Canopy:
translating heritage into a contemporary aesthetic
Hegra, Saudi Arabia
The Art Canopy at @thechedihegra , designed by @GiòForma and @_blackengineering_ is a breathtaking 700-meter-long Land Art Architecture masterpiece that draws inspiration from the natural and man-made patterns of AlUla. This innovative design echoes the repetition seen in the old town, Hegra Monuments, brickwork, and Nabatean tombs, seamlessly translating heritage into a contemporary aesthetic.
Composed of 50,000 intricately crafted pieces that move gracefully with the wind, spinning on their own axes while interacting dynamically with light and shadow, the canopy creates a harmonious connection between 15 buildings within Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. By blending heritage and innovation, it offers both visual and conceptual continuity amidst AlUla’s timeless wonders.
With architecture and bespoke design by @gioforma and @_blackengineering_ , the resort perfectly balances contemporary aesthetics with AlUla ‘s ancient charm.
